What is a federal trademark?

Answered By Elsie Ivins, Editor

A federal trademark search is done to determine if the trademark that you are applying is not yet registered to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office database. It is not only done on the database of the USPTO; all available public databases are also search for any unregistered trademark that is not in use. Primarily, the personnel of USPTO or the assigned government trademark attorney supervises the trademark search.
